St.
Baldrick’s began with three people who wanted to make a
difference, and chose to help children with cancer.
Today, the St. Baldrick’s Foundation unites thousands of
volunteers whose shared mission – to shave the way to Conquer
Kids’ Cancer – has captured the enthusiasm and devotion
of people around the world.
With have an incredible army of people working together to raise
public awareness and funds to overcome the devastating impact
of childhood cancer:
• children and families impacted by the scourge of cancer,
• shavees, organizers, volunteers, sponsors and donors
who make the dream of St. Baldrick’s a reality, and
• researchers who are finding new cures and better treatments
with our help.
The goal of the St. Baldrick’s board and staff is to provide
all constituents an enjoyable, successful and rewarding experience.
We also take very seriously our responsibility to be good stewards
of the funds you help to raise.
In our first year together as an independent St. Baldrick’s
Foundation, we raised over $5.3 million – 50% more than
in 2004. For the important role you played in this success,
we thank
you.
Our primary beneficiary is the Children’s Oncology Group
(COG), the world’s leading childhood cancer research network.
One hundred percent of the funds given to the COG this July
are already helping this group of 230 top medical institutions
to speed the day when all children can be cured.
In addition to a few smaller grants, this year we also established
the first St. Baldrick’s Fellowship, to encourage promising
new medical professionals to pursue pediatric cancer research
as a specialty. Our first Fellow is now in place at Schneider
Children’s Hospital, a respected COG institution near the
birthplace of St. Baldrick’s in New Hyde Park, New York.
