The Children's Mini-Incision Surgery Center
The Children's Mini-Incision Surgery Center at Schneider Children's Hospital is providing state-of-the-art minimally invasive surgery for infants, children and adolescents so that they will benefit from decreased post-operative pain and complications, very small incisions with little or no scarring, a faster recovery time, and a shorter stay in the hospital.
The pediatric surgeons at Schneider Children's Hospital are providing the most advanced minimally invasive surgery techniques for infants, children and adolescents.
These techniques have become common in adults but only in recent years used with children because of the need for miniature instruments which required significant technologic advancements.
Traditionally surgeons used the open access approach, an incision large enough for human hands, suction tubes or other instruments. Now the same operation can be performed through tiny portals, dramatically miniaturizing incision site and pain.
Minimally invasive surgery, includes laparoscopy and thoracoscopy
surgery, which gives the surgeon a "view inside" the abdomen or
chest. Small incisions are made and a tiny video camera is guided
through one of the incisions and small instruments passed through
the others. A surgeon can perform the operation while watching
a video screen to manipulate the instruments. Children and infants
have less pain, suffering, scarring, a shorter hospital stay and
quicker recovery.
Surgeons at The Children's Mini-Incision Surgery Center perform all minimally invasive surgical procedures currently available for infants, children and adolescents.
