Mini Incision Surgery Center
Imagine this, children having major surgery and leaving the hospital with tiny incisions, decreased postoperative pain and decreased complications! Imagine children being discharged from the hospital earlier and returning to school and normal activities sooner! These images are now a reality. Surgery with large incisions is a thing of the past for many surgical procedures. The Children's Mini-Incision Surgery Center at Schneider Children's Hospital now provides all minimally invasive surgical procedures (laparoscopic and thoracoscopic) currently available for infants, children and adolescents.
With laparpscopic surgery - also known as minimally invasive surgery (MIS) - operations are performed with a telescope and specialized instruments. Since MIS requires very small incisions, patients heal faster and go home sooner than they would have had they undergone a more traditional operation.
While adults are more commonly benefiting from laparoscopic surgery, MIS has been slower to develop for children. But all that's changing, and experts at the Children's Mini-Incision Surgery Center at Schneider Children's Hospital (SCH) are at the forefront of this specialty., Equipped with the tools and talent to perform pediatric laparoscopy, a team of specialist surgeon is offering MIS - and all its benefits to children.
We are please to offer the resources of three surgeons who routinely perform this type of surgery because it means greater access to the most advance techniques for more children. One of the few pediatric centers that focuses on providing MIS, Schneider Children's Hospital provided comprehensive care in this type of surgery. Many pediatric surgical procedures can be performed with a minimally invasive approach. Schneider Children's Hospital pediatric surgeons operate on newborns, infants, children and adolescents. Children who have MIS receive half-inch incisions that leave no lasting scars and experience reduced postoperative pain and fewer complications. The quicker recovery times and shorter hospital stay allows a speedy return to normal life - for kids and parents alike.
