These are our children. They come in many sizes, shapes and colors: "preemies" so small they almost fit in the nurse's hand; a high school athlete who looms over his physicians; a toddler deftly steering her IV pole though the halls.
Many of our children are seriously sick and need the hospital's comprehensive spectrum of medical services. Many are healthy and have periodic check-ups in the Well-Baby Clinic. Others are teenagers in the Adolescent Medicine Program who need guidance in understanding their physical and emotional development.
Children come to Schneider Children's Hospital from all over the world because of its reputation for excellence in pediatric cancer care, cardiology, digestive disorders and surgery - to name a few specialties. Today's escalating medical knowledge and skills mean added years of life and new hope. Those with hemophilia, cystic fibrosis, leukemia and diabetes find complete health maintenance in the hospital's specialty centers.
Sick children are often frightened children. A whole range of support is here for them. Trained social workers are assigned to every unit. Child Life specialists turn the hospital experience into a learning experience, lessening the stress of a hospital stay. Psychologists and psychiatrists consult with treatment teams, patients and families.
In every segment of care at Schneider Children's Hospital and Schneider Children's Hospital at North Shore, the goal is to fulfill each child's maximum potential.
